MSR Fling Tent 2-Person 3-Season description

Weighing only 3lb 6oz, the Fling is the lightest free-standing 2-person 3-season tent that MSR makes.

Bottom Line: The MSR Fling tent is an ultralight shelter for you, your camping partner, and your gear in the spring, summer, and fall.

Great ultralight tent
Deej:

I purchased this tent last summer specifically for a trip to Isle Royale National Park. I was looking for a two person tent that was light enough to carry solo yet have plenty of room for my stuff and my gear. This tent fit the bill. Temps ranged from 40-60, it rained quite hard one night, and like the previous reviewer I did notice some condensation. I however did not think it was excessive considering its single wall design. If you properly stake the guy lines and make sure the vents are open, it shouldn't cause a problem. All in all a great design and I'd definitely recommend it. Probably the lightest 2 person freestanding tent you'll find.

Avoid this Tent Except for Desert Camping
ChipS:

I purchased the Fling tent this spring, and used it for the first time during a 6-day backpacking trip in Colorado's Indian Peaks Wilderness in August. Its light and very roomy, but condensation was a major problem. The inner walls of the tent were soaked 5 out of 6 mornings. We set up the tent in the prescribed manner, and also tried variations, to increase ventilation, but nothing helped. Our camps were between 10,400 and 11,000 ft with no precipitation, but we slept damp every night due to condensation. I cannot recommend this tent except for camping in arid areas.

Light and funky single wall
Charis Weathers:

I've had this fantastically lightweight tent for more than 2 yrs now and it has done what it is supposed to do-as a single wall-quite well. It has a fun, creative design, with MSRs wonderful orange color to brightly light up the tent. If I liked single wall tents then I think I'd keep this tent for a long time. Unfortunately, because of this tent, I've discovered I don't like single walls because when they get packed wet, they get unfurled wet. With a double wall at least the tent body can remain dry. The Fling accumulates condensation quite easily, even with only one person in the tent, although it does flow down the sides and out the vents exceedingly well. For me, though, this means that every morning I have to dry out the inside of the tent - a pain. I found myself worrying about having a wet tent whenever I used it, so I've switched to a double wall. BUT, again, if you like single wall tents and don't mind condensation build up, then the Fling could be great for you.

Fling with care is recommended
sunfun:

Great tent for space/weight ratio. I recommend you put your boots and backpack in a garbage bag outside the tent and carry a small sponge or modesty towel as the Japanese call it to wipe down the inside of the tent. These things may take an extra minute to do, but makes for dryer more comfortable living on the longer/cooler/wetter trips. As you can tell I love this tent.

Just good enough
tctruman1880592:

Nice tent, dry, a little claustrophobic for my tastes, ventilation adequate if you set it up properly (open end into the wind). Forget the vestibule, it's just not functional but to keep the reain out of the 1/2 window. Candidly, my double-walled ultralight (TNF FLight series)provide more useable space, better condensation handling and better venting... plus I can flip the fly back and star-gaze on warm nights) for just a couple extra oz. The MSR will be my loaner tent for my newbie camping buddies who don't have their own gear.
