The NEEDLES Ancient Path Expedition - 3 Days

The Needles region of Canyonlands National Park is one of the most well-kept secrets in America and represents the very heart and soul of the park. To enter the really pristine areas of the park, you must either hike many miles or be an accomplished four-wheeler. We remove these boundaries by providing you with four-wheel drive access, locating the most desirable camp sites, and guiding you to hidden archeological sites. As soon as you enter the Needles, you will feel the mystery of the ancient Anasazi who disappeared without explanation in approximately 1250 A.D. You’ll have plenty of time to attempt to sort out the puzzle as you hike the rugged canyons and view the amazing remnants of a long-gone culture on this three-day expedition. Add to that stunning arches and windows carved out of rock over millions of years and some of America’s most incredible landscapes, and you’re off for the adventure of your life!

Main Attraction: Indian rock art, backcountry exploration, rugged 4 - wheeling, natural arches, camping in the wilderness.

The MAZE Wilderness Expedition - 4 Days

A trek into the Maze takes you into the very heart of the pristine wilderness for which Canyonlands National Park is so well known. On this trip you are the adventurer, you are walking in the footsteps of the ancient Anasazi or in the boots of Butch Cassidy. Once you enter the park, you’ll know you are in one of the least-visited parks in the United States and will feel blessed by your ability to experience it for yourself. Your trek will include visits to some of the world’s finest, undisturbed rock art panels left by ancient American Indian cultures. you’ll visit the Great Gallery rock art panel, famous for its "Holy Ghost" image. You will also stop at the Doll House to visit another world-famous archeological site, the Harvest Scene. You will be left to ponder the mystery of their disappearance as your guide helps you unravel their story. Your hikes in the canyons will leave you feeling strong and confident and maybe a little unwilling to return to civilization. While the hikes are designed for people in relatively good condition, there are no technical climbs or skills required.

Horseshoe Barrier-Style Art - 1 Day

Horseshoe Canyon is in the outlands, an annex of Canyonlands National Park. On this trip you are the adventurer, you are walking in the footsteps of the ancient Anasazi. You will visit one of the world’s finest, undisturbed rock art panels left by ancient American Indian cultures. You’ll visit the Great Gallery rock art panel, famous for its "Holy Ghost" image and ponder the mystery of their disappearance as your guide helps you unravel their story. Your hikes in the canyons will leave you feeling strong and confident and maybe a little unwilling to return to civilization. While the hikes are designed for people in relatively good condition, there are no technical climbs or skills required.

This itinerary will vary as it is a charter trip designed to meet your ideals.

You begin at the Moab office at 7:00 a.m. With your friendly, competent guide, you’ll board a 4X4 vehicle and travel across the high desert to Green River, Utah, to the Horseshoe Canyon trailhead. Horseshoe Canyon is one of the highlights of the Canyonlands parcels: a hike deep into the canyon to see The Great Gallery, the mysterious, world-renown rock art panel left by ancient American Indian cultures in the Southwest. Your guide will explain to you the difference between petroglyphs and pictographs and will discuss various rock art styles including the ghostly Barrier Canyon style, displayed at the Great Gallery. You’ll have time to sit quietly with the powerful images that tower above you. The hike to the panel descends about 600 feet. The hike is 8 miles round trip. You’ll want a day pack for lunch, and water. Upon return to the rim, we will retrace our drive back to Moab.

Elephant Hill Charter Trip - 1 Day

To enter the really pristine areas of the park, you must either hike many miles or be an accomplished four-wheeler. We remove these boundaries by providing you with four-wheel drive access. As soon as you enter the Needles, you will see the geology remain much the same as other districts of canyonlands. Once you’ve climbed over Elephant Hill the geological namesake commands the scenery. This one-day expedition will be a long day. We find you have done some research about the area when you consider a trip over Elephant Hill. Our office staff is standing by to complete the arrangement with you.

The Details

Your adventure begins early this morning at our partners office in Moab where we’ll board sturdy, air-conditioned 4X4 vehicles for our trek into Canyonlands National Park. The drive to the park is especially scenic, upon two hours worth of pavement. We can integrate many of our Needles Archeology points of interest or spend our time over the Hill accessing the Joint Trail or confluence overlook trails.

A trip over Elephant Hill is arduous for a single day. We certainly recommend our longer itinerary. A delicious lunch prepared and served by your guide will restore your energy before we continue to meet your vacation ideals as will be worked out when we talk to charter this day trip in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park.
